Blog entry 2

Educational Culture Shock

I have observed people around me; they all came from different cultural backgrounds each with a unique tradition which was reflected on their life style. Of course, being in a higher education institution means that there are many students who are much older than me, which I believe contributes greatly in forming a diverse community with all kind of interesting things going on.

The academic life in university is completely different to what I experienced in college and school. Lessons were told differently with lectures separating with classes and all other different sessions. It is completely up to me as to whether I wanted to prepare for my future or prepare to fail as all responsibility is on me, there’s nobody to rely on but myself. However, this can be a valuable opportunity for me to gain personal learning skills and independence.

A lot of people asked me why not just going to a university in London and live at home. Well I see things differently. Coming here is not only because of the course I wanted to do and its reputation in the University of Essex but also, most importantly I wanted to be independent and do not wish parents to help me out whenever I need it. Eventually we will set sail to the cruel reality out there and we can’t expect parents to help forever and I believe that this is a process everyone has to get through in their life.

Educational Culture Shock Group 2 BLOG 2

As with the last blog, please take time to think about what differences you have noticed between the academic environment here at Essex University at the environment of the school or college etc. where you have just come from. Please plan your thoughts maybe first writing in Word so you can check you spelling, grammar, punctuation, style etc. before posting. As usual refrain from insulting or offensive language. I will have to remove it and it may constitute an academic offence.
